Off On my Tangent - SHOULD I JOIN A RELIGIOUS GROUP?

Hello there. Welcome to Entrepreneurial Goddess and the 42nd post in my series entitled "Off On My Tangent!"

In the previous article, you learned that every human has a God-instilled/inherent need for spirituality. To satisfy that need, rather than choosing a religion acceptable to God, people usually veer toward a religion that fits their lifestyle or one that touches their emotions, perhaps urging them to "get saved." With a plethora of religious choices, the question is: Should I join a religious group?

The simple answer is YES! Consider the example of Jesus. When he was on earth, he, his family and others regularly went to the temple in Jerusalem to engage in organized worship. (Luke 2:41-43; 4:14-16) Notice what he told his followers: "By this all will know that you are my disciples-if you have love among yourselves." (John 13:35*) Most churches and religions past and present do not urge their followers to show the kind of love that Jesus did. How are you going to show love to your fellow believers if you don't associate with them regularly and are only concerned about self?

Look at Hebrews 10:24, 25*: "Let us consider [be concerned about; pay attention to] one another so as to incite [motivate; stir up] to love and fine works, not forsaking our meeting together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as you see the day drawing near." To carry out this Scriptural command, there must be Christian meetings we can attend on a constant basis. How on earth are you going to motivate your fellow believers if you only see them once or twice a year or you're always cooped up at home alone?

For us to please God, we need to belong to an organized religious group. Afterall, Jehovah God, the Creator of the Universe is Himself organized. (1 Corinthians 14:33) We also need to seek truth and strive to conform to it. That means acting in accord with truth revealed in God’s Word, the Bible, rather than following church traditions or religious teachings that conflict with Bible truth. How does one go about finding the true religion? That'll be addressed in the next tangent!
